Why clone anything
Rebuilding an interface you admire is the fastest way to find out how much of it is craft and how much is budget. You cannot skim a detail you have to reproduce.
The build
Deliberately no framework. Plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, so every easing curve and every layout decision had to be made explicitly rather than inherited from a component library.
The lesson was mostly about restraint: the original's impact comes from a small number of very precise transitions, not a large number of moderate ones.
What it taught me
Timing and easing carry more of the perceived quality than any individual visual choice. Get those wrong and no amount of gradient rescues it.
